John K. Murphy, JD, MS, PA-C, EFO, FACC retired as a deputy fire chief after 32 years of service; a practicing attorney whose focus is on employment practices liability, training safety, employment policy and practices, forensic evaluation on fire and EMS operations, internal investigations, subject matter expert in pre-hospital EMS and Fire Operations and consulting on risk management for private and public entities. Murphy’s past fire experience has been as a paramedic firefighter for more than 20 years; a Chief Fire Officer, Chief of Training, Emergency Operations Chief, Health and Safety Officer and a strong promoter and facilitator of safety and health-care issues in the fire service. He is a Physicians Assistant and Fellow, American College of Clinicians and has been a practicing Physicians’ Assistant since 1977 with a focus in urgent, emergency, occupational medicine and pre-hospital medical care. He is the Vice President of M2 Resource Group, Inc.

 

Jonah Smith grew up in Richmond, VA where his exposure to the fire service began in the Church Hill area of the RVA with some of the best firefighters in the city.  Jonah attended the University of South Carolina for both a Bachelors and Masters and started with the Columbia Fire Department in 2003.  After a few years, Jonah pursued a career with the Charlotte, NC Fire Department where he began in 2005.  He is currently the Captain on Engine 20 in the city’s south side.  Additionally, since the day he received his certifications in 2003, he has volunteered with departments including the Lexington County FD and Columbia Fire Department.  Currently he serves as an Assistant Chief at the Pleasant Valley Fire Department in South Carolina.  Jonah is a 6 time FDIC instructor and has presented at numerous conferences and is a contributor to the Fire Engineering Books and Video Series. He is married with 2 children.  

 

Battalion Chief John Jones is a 19-year veteran of the Fire Service. He served 15 years at Columbia Fire Department achieving the rank of Captain by age 30. In 2015, he left to join the West Columbia Fire Department and credits the move as a renaissance to his life’s purpose and career. In 2018 he started a diversity consulting business and a Facebook channel addressing issues of tolerance, diversity and the issues that divide us. He credits his family and his faith as a catalyst for pursuing a better world through training, education and experiences.
