John K. Murphy, J.D. M.S, PA-C, EFO,  a career firefighter beginning his fire service as a Firefighter/Paramedic and retiring as a Deputy Fire Chief after 32 years of service.  Mr. Murphy is an attorney licensed in Washington whose focus is on firefighter health & safety, firefighter risk management, employment practices liability, employment policy, internal investigations, expert witness and litigation support and consulting on risk management for fire departments. He was a Navy Corpsman with the Marine Corps. He is a frequent lecturer, educator, author, legal columnist, blogger and member of Fire Engineering’s - Fire Service Court Blog Talk Radio Show. He is also a Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) presenter, lecturer at the IAFC Fire Rescue International (FRI), Women in Fire Conference’s and is a National Fire Academy (NFA) Instructor. Mr. Murphy has spoken at numerous local and national Fire and EMS conferences and for individual fire departments and emergency service organizations. He is a distance learning instructor at the University of Florida Fire and Emergency Services (FES) programs. Mr. Murphy authored an EMS text book entitled Legal, Political and Regulatory Environment of EMS and co-authored: Cooling the Flames: Verbal De-escalation of Mentally Ill and Aggressive Patients. A Comprehensive Guidebook for Firefighters and Emergency Medical Services.


Jonah Smith grew up in Richmond, VA where his exposure to the fire service began in the Church Hill area of the RVA with some of the best firefighters in the city.  Jonah attended the University of South Carolina for both a Bachelors and Masters and started with the Columbia Fire Department in 2003.  After a few years, Jonah pursued a career with the Charlotte, NC Fire Department where he began in 2005.  He is currently the Captain on Engine 20 in the city’s south side.  Additionally, since the day he received his certifications in 2003, he has volunteered with departments including the Lexington County FD and Columbia Fire Department.  Currently he serves as an Assistant Chief at the Pleasant Valley Fire Department in South Carolina.  Jonah is a 6 time FDIC instructor and has presented at numerous conferences and is a contributor to the Fire Engineering Books and Video Series. He is married with 2 children.  


Battalion Chief John Jones is a 19-year veteran of the Fire Service. He served 15 years at Columbia Fire Department achieving the rank of Captain by age 30. In 2015, he left to join the West Columbia Fire Department and credits the move as a renaissance to his life’s purpose and career. In 2018 he started a diversity consulting business and a Facebook channel addressing issues of tolerance, diversity and the issues that divide us. He credits his family and his faith as a catalyst for pursuing a better world through training, education and experiences.

Greg White believes in THINKING BIG!!! He has delivered his motivational message to over 1,500 audiences throughout the United States and Europe. Greg draws people in with his amazing basketball wizardry, but his powerful content and high-energy delivery resonates with anyone who aspires to be more.

Greg spent nearly three decades in college basketball. He was head coach at several well-known schools such as Marshall University, University of Charleston and University of Pikeville. He also served as assistant basketball coach at UCLA (11 National Championships) where he became a part of the UCLA storied tradition. He worked for Head Coach Jim Harrick and assisted along side Lorenzo Romar (University of Washington) and Steve Lavin (St John's University). He also ran the famed UCLA basketball camps!

Greg is a native of Mullens, West Virginia. He was a high school All-American who once scored 50 points and had 15 assists in the same game. As a senior, he was named "West Virginia High School Player of the Year" and he was selected to tour with the United States All Star Team. Greg is also a member of the Mullens High School Hall of Fame.

Greg White has been a motivational speaker and consultant for Converse, AND1 and Reebok. He has spoken for many top United States companies and corporations (Mercedes, BMW, IBM, Subway, NiSource, BB&T Banks, West Virginia Lottery, Chevrolet, Holzer Medical Clinics, St Mary's Hospitals, West Virginia Treasury Department, etc.). He holds two degrees from Marshall University: a Bachelor's Degree in Business and a Master’s Degree in Sports Management. Greg resides in Charleston, West Virginia, with his wife, Donna Slayton M.D., and their two children, Hunter and Alexa.
